Name: Chester William "Chet" McCall Dates: Birth date: February 1, 1923 Death date: June 6, 2012 Obituary: McCALL – WINSTON-SALEM Mr. Chester William “Chet” McCall passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born February 1, 1923 in Huntingdon, PA to the late Harvey Lebbus McCall and Annie Olive Lowe McCall. Mr. McCall graduated from Huntingdon High School in Huntingdon, PA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Farenholt DD-491 in the Pacific during WWII from 1944 – 1946. Mr. McCall served as the Mayor of Brookhaven, PA from 1962 - 1970. He retired as a supervisor at Westinghouse with 45 years of service. Mr. McCall was a member of Beck’s Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and sang in the Choir. He had a great love for music and enjoyed playing the trombone and violin, along with giving his time to sing at Springwood Care Center for 20 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Louise Taylor McCall. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 ˝ years, Louise B. McCall of the home; son, Richard William McCall of Liberty, SC; three daughters: Nancy Jean McCall Cline of Greenville, SC, Beverly Anne McCall Garrett of Columbia, SC and Patricia Lynn McCall Stoner of Simpsonville, SC; stepdaughter, Sandra Hedrick (Gary). He is also survived by ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Beck’s Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor and the Rev. Frank Huffman officiating. Burial will follow at Marshall Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rights provided by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends Friday, June 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck’s Baptist Church General Fund, 5505 Becks Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
