Mrs. Barbara Jean Puckett Cooke, age 78 of King passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012 at her home in King. Mrs. Cooke was born in Surry County, January 27, 1934 to William Hasten and Lena Davis Puckett. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Richard Cooke, a son, Rodney Dale Cooke, five sisters and six brothers.

Mrs. Cooke is survived by a daughter, Janet Renee (John) Grady of King. Two granddaughters; Brooke Sargent Baity and Britney Sargent. One grandson, Jarred Sargent. Three great-grandchildren: Landon Neal, Salem Baity and Haston Hagerthey. Three step-grandchildren; Erin Fendley, Sean Grady and Megan Grady. Two sisters; Mary Lou Collins and Francis Watson both of Mt. Airy. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cooke will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Rev. Grover Jarrell and Rev. Bill Watson. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mt. Airy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening July 31st from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
