KERNERSVILLE – Martha Sue Ogburn Swain, 86, passed away Thursday, August 02, 2012 at Brookstone Terrace of Clemmons. She was born December 31, 1925 in Forsyth Co. to the late Clyde Franklin and Mahala Hester Ogburn.

Martha was a long time member of Kernersville Moravian Church where she sang in the choir and played in the band. Later in life, after raising a family and finding time finally available, she became an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting landscapes and still lifes, now cherished by the family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence William Swain; three sisters, Elaine Flynt, Mildred Bivin Cummings, and Wilhelmina Wilkinson.

Surviving are two sons, Dwight Swain (Judy), Tim Swain (Irma); one daughter, Melanie Stallings (John); five grandchildren, Amy Mills, Todd Swain, Dustin Swain, John David Stallings and Emily Stallings; three great-grandchildren, John Maxwell Mills, Chastan Swain and Logan Swain.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Kernersville Moravian Church with Rev. Don Winters officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 A.M. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Kernersville Moravian Church, 504 South Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284 or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
