Name: Janie Ruth Simmons Marshall Dates: Birth date: July 1, 1930 Death date: June 11, 2012 Obituary: Janie Ruth Simmons Marshall, 81, was escorted into Heaven on the arm of the husband Elmer early Monday morning. She was born in Pilot Mountain on July 1st 1930 and was the eldest sister of six, and was preceded in death by her parents - Roy and Nealy, a brother - Roy Simmons Jr, and a sister- Lucy Fansler. Janie leaves behind a loving son- Powell Eugene Marshall of Raleigh; and three sisters - Priscilla Wadford of Advance, Sue Holt of Pilot Mountain and Bobbie along with her husband Johnnie Idol of King. Janie graduated from Pilot Mountain High School- where she was a member of the varsity basketball team. A few years later, she met her husband, Elmer in a bowling league. She was an avid animal lover, loved vacationing whether by RV or motorcycle. She retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1985. Supporting her strong faith in Jesus Christ, mom was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville - where she was active in WMA and the GA's. Nary a Saturday night was void of her beloved gospel music... she loved the Gaithers. Oh-, and she was also a true blue WMU Tarheel fan. She was a caring, proud and loving mother, sister, aunt, neighbor, friend, and confidant. Powell and the family would like to thank her doctors and caregivers who included Gerald Fromson, Daniel Murphy and Susan Hines, the nursing staff of Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation and the sweet angel who looked after her as a roommate towards the end- Ms. Thelma Southern. We also cannot begin to thank the loving neighbors who cared for her and her home towards the end of her life, as if she were their own mother. Visitation will be held at Hayworth Miller Funeral home in Rural Hall from noon to 2pm on Thursday June 14, followed by a Funeral service conducted by Brother Don Collins, Pastor Eddie Honeycutt, and Pastor Terry Rausch ending with a graveside service at Pilot Mountain Cemetery. The family will be receiving family and friends at other times at her home in Winston Salem. Out of thanks to the caring angels at Hospice we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home; 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem NC 27103.
