Name: Kenneth "Stan" Stanley Stafford, Sr. Dates: Birth date: August 31, 1935 Death date: August 1, 2012 Obituary: Kernersville - Mr. Kenneth Stanley "Stan" Stafford, Sr. 76, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Stan was born August 31, 1935 in Forsyth County to the late Kenneth Stafford and Mildred Teague Stafford. Never leaving Bunker Hill, he remained faithful to his family, friends and community. He attended Sedge Garden United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Kernersville High School Class of 1954. He was also a 1956 graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy and a 1958 graduate of High Point College. Stan retired from Western Electric with over 34 years of service and enjoyed farming, raising cattle and tobacco. In high school and junior college, Stan was an outstanding athlete in basketball and baseball. His love for sports led to several years of coaching baseball with Kernersville Little League. Stan was a humble man of virtue, who was very giving and supportive of family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Sue Hart Stafford, of the home; one son, Kenneth Stafford, Jr. and wife, Denise of Kernersville; three daughters, Susan Britton and husband, David of Pendleton, Sara Lanier and husband, Buron of Burgaw, Sandra Lowder and special friend, Michael Moss of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, Allison Wagner (Brandon), Alex Britton, Kenny Stafford, Lauren Head (Ben), Haley Lanier, Amos Lanier, Lindsey Cummings, Arianna Cummings and Summer Lowder; and one brother, Jerrell Stafford and wife, Ethel. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 3, 2012 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Cash and Rev. Ellis Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 PM Thursday, August 2, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Sedge Garden UMC - Chapel Renovation Fund, 794 Sedge Garden Rd. Kernersville, NC 27284.
