Obituary:
MERRITT
Mrs. Josephine “Joe” Merritt, 87, of Winston-Salem died Monday, August 6, 2012 at her home. She was born March 20, 1925 in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late, Malcom and Margaret Myers Tuttle. Mrs. Merritt was a 28 year member of Elon Baptist Church. She had worked at Craver’s Country Ham House and Hanes Printing. She loved her church family, flowers, gardening and Christmas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Merritt and her sister, Dorothy Tuttle Merritt. Survivors include one daughter, Shelby M. Hutchens of Winston-Salem; one son, William “Buck” Merritt and wife, Sonya Queen Merritt of Lexington; one grandson, ET 1 Gregg Merritt of the US Coast Guard stationed in NY and wife, Cantley; one sister, Ruby T. Blin of Winston-Salem; several nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends before the service from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the funeral home.
