<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115682.jpg" alt="Ruby Mae Leonard Shields" />Mrs. Ruby Mae Leonard Shields age 91 of Kernersville passed away Tuesday February 21, 2012 after a long illness. She was born February 19, 1921 in Forsyth County to Adam Lindsay and Dula Ethel Green Leonard and lived in the Union Cross community of Forsyth County .Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Gilmer, Arnold, Bernie, Ivory, Earlie, Richard, and Ray Leonard, sisters, Cora Yokley, Gertrude Reid, Orpha Pope, Mabel Watkins, Annie Bodenheimer, Naomi Cecil and an unnamed infant sister. Mrs. Shields was the last surviving of 14 children. Mrs. Shields was a member of Union Cross Moravian Church where she was an active member of the Women’s Fellowship and attended Circle meetings. She also assisted in preparing and serving meals for the bereaved in the church and the community.
Surviving are her husband Wyatte Shields, a son Donald Shields and wife Barbara of Kernersville, one granddaughter Donna Elizabeth Hardy and husband Leslie A. Hardy, and nieces and nephews including Jack Leonard whom she considered a brother.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday February 24, 2012 at Union Cross Moravian Church with Rev. Don Griffin and Rev. Linda Browne Officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday at Hayworth- Miller Kernersville Chapel.
The Shields family wishes to thank each member of the dedicated staff at Salemtowne for their kindness and care for the past almost three years and especially for the exceptional compassion and care during the last few weeks.

Mr. Ronnie Ray Reynolds, 71 of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Reynolds was born August 17, 1940 in Forsyth County to the late Maylon Harding and Viola Southern Reynolds. He was of the Baptist Faith and retired from RJ Reynolds  with 37 years of service. Ronnie enjoyed playing softball in his earlier years and loved fresh and salt water fishing. He enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles, he enjoyed relaxing at the lake, but the most important of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Reynolds. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Bonnie Vestal Reynolds of the home, a daughter, Terrie Oldham and husband, Robert of Winston-Salem, a son, Chad Reynolds and wife, Lisa of Charlotte, NC, two grandchildren, Heather and Dalton, two sisters, Jean Gardner and husband, John of Georgia and Ora Lee Bates of Winston-Salem. The Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, February 23 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Friday, February 24 at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Rev. Jim Brown. Entombment will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Park. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 28, 1933 in St. Joseph, MO to the late Horace Wren Nickerson and Ethel Rose Nickerson. Mrs. Foster was a member of Pine Chapel Moravian Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. She enjoyed making quilts for family and friends and made over 700 teddy bears for the Winston-Salem Police Department to distribute to children in need. Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Foster. She is survived by her loving husband, Dub Foster; a daughter, Gail Fariss and husband Alan of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Jason Fariss and Matthew Fariss of Pfafftown, Eric Collins of Winston-Salem, and Mary Collins of San Angelo, TX; a brother, Bob Nickerson and wife Olga of Florida; a sister, Carol Miller and husband Frank of Fairbanks, AK; a brother-in-law, Frank Foster and wife Dot. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Pine Chapel Moravian Church with the Rev. James Demby and the Rev. Reynolds Hospice Home.  She was born in Forsyth County on March 20, 1920              to the late James T. Jones, Sr. and Lula Shore Jones.  She grew up on Hillcrest Farm which became Hillcrest Golf Course.  On her birthday in 1943 she married James W. Allen.  Margie retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Company and Forsyth Hospital Child Care.  She was a lifelong member of Hope Moravian Church where she was very active in the Choir, the Ella Mae Johnson Sunday School Class, and the Women’s Fellowship as long as her health permitted.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and siblings, John Lee, Clyde, Bynum, J.T., Jr., Estelle, Margaret, Billy and Mildred; nephews, Raymond and Don Jones.  Aunt Margie is survived by nephews Richard, Thurman, and Bobby Jones; nieces Peggy Moser, Erline Wright, Margaret Cline, Donna Chappell, Mary Hege, Nancy Lloyd, Janet Jennings, Vicky Smith, Janice Raper, Julie Maynard, and Elizabeth Hensley.  A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. David Merritt officiating.  Margie will lie in state 45 minutes prior to the service.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Hope Moravian Church fellowship hall. <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115577.jpg" alt="Marlyn &quot;Kay&quot; Tesh Pope" />Mrs. Marlyn “Kay” Tesh Pope, age 79 of Westfield passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Kay was born in Forsyth County, January 28, 1933 to Samuel Lee Tesh, Jr. and Evelyn Mae Thorpe Tesh. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King and retired from Sara Lee Hosiery.  In addition to her parents Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. Pope.  Two sons: Samuel Ervin and Charles E. McGee.  A granddaughter, Casey M. Coleman and sister, Dolores T. Turney also one brother, James Harry Tesh.

Surviving is one daughter, Crystal M. (Ronnie) Lindsey of Westfield.  Two grandchildren: David W. Hemrick and Nicole L. (Chris) Roberts.  Six great-grandchildren and one sister, Lorene T. Jarvis also one brother, Samuel L. (Betty) Tesh III.  Several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery with eulogy by Betty D. Tesh. <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115634.jpg" alt="Sharon Harned" />Sharon Harned passed away peacefully Sunday morning in the presence of family.  She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ben Harned, Jr., and parents, Gilbert and Ruth Schnapf.
Sharon is survived by Stanley Troyer of Winston-Salem, NC; her daughter Cassie Troyer (Bermuda Run, NC); and sons Douglas Troyer (Hingham, MA) and Dr. Michael Troyer (Cincinnati, OH).  She will continue to be “Grandma Mimi” and a watchful and loving angel of our children: Mason, Jack, Sophia, Benjamin, William, and Sam.
Sharon was a dedicated and caring nurse (R.N.) for almost 50 years, serving at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, IN, Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, and other health centers and voluntary help-lines in the Winston-Salem Area.
She was a beloved and active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Evansville, IN and Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, NC.  She was a volunteer at the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center, Old Salem, and Bok Tower Sanctuary (in Lake Wales, FL).  She was a three-time cancer survivor.  She loved dogs and long walks; nature, gardening and flowers; painting, classical music and other creative arts; and collecting antiques.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Augsburg Lutheran Church, Winston-Salem, NC, with the Rev. Dr. Ronald A.  Rinn officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium Garden at the Church.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the medical staff and caregivers at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and the Hospice &amp; Palliative Care Center of Winston-Salem.

Jeanne North Hill passed away peacefully Sunday morning 2/19/2012. 
“Jan” was a 1977 graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School and graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1981.
“Jan “retired early from her employment with the Aon Corporation in 2006. She enjoyed spending her time at the YWCA with her swim class and basketball team. She also had a passion for beautiful music and was a long time supporter of the Winston-Salem Symphony. She played the role of “Miss Liberty” at many of their events. She rarely missed a concert or event and also sponsored a music series, for others to enjoy.
She was preceded in death by her parents William Gilchrist Hill and Jeanne Glover Hill, of Winston-Salem. She is survived by her brother William Gilchrist (Gil) Hill, Jr., his son Alex and wife Carleen (Winston-Salem), her Aunt Mary Taylor (Wilmington) and several cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday 2/24/2012, from 5-7 PM at the Hayworth Miller funeral home on Silas Creek Parkway Winston-Salem, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday 2/25/2012, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Interment will immediately follow in the Dalton Garden adjacent to the church.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115504.jpg" alt="Charles Fredrick Blaylock" />Mr. Charles Fredrick Blaylock, age 69 of Rural Hall passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Blaylock was born July 31, 1942 in Forsyth County to Thomas Washington Blaylock, Jr. and Daisy Mae Peoples Blaylock. He was a 1960 graduate of Northwest High School and a graduate of Forsyth Technical College. He retired after 32 years of employment with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco.  Mr. Blaylock was preceded in death by his parents and in 1980 by his daughter, Ronda Mechelle Blaylock.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 47 years, Lynne C. Blaylock of the home and his sister, Christine (Paul) Kautz of King, NC.  He is also survived by a nephew’ Jeff (Deb) Shouse and niece, Sherri Thigpen, special niece, Sherry (Tobin) Leonard and special nephews, Mark L Thomas, Robert Thomas, and Kevin Thomas; sister-in-law; Vicky (Mark) Thomas and father and mother-in-law; Ralph and Katherine Crews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King by Don Wallace, Minister. Mrs. Doris Mildred Shore Brandon passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center.  She was born July 16, 1920 in Forsyth County to the late Hessie Jayne Edwards Shore and Squire Nelson Shore.  Mrs. Brandon dedicated her life to her Savior and family.  She was a faithful Christian who wrote Christian tracks and witnessed to many.  

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brandon was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Brandon; sister, Eunice Billings; and great-grandson, Wendell Martin.  She is survived by her five children, Jane Browder (Harold), Jim Brandon (Alice), David Brandon (Faye), Terry Brandon (Brenda), and Gale Richardson (Dale); twelve grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; special friend, Louise Simmons; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 12 noon on Tuesday, February 21 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Terry Brandon and Don Wallace, Minister officiating.  Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115457.jpg" alt="Stella Grant Cann" />Mrs. Stella Grant Cann, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Mrs. Cann was born on December 24, 1918 in Iredell County, NC to the late Earlie and Attie Reid Grant.  Stella was a long-time member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting.  She retired after 27 years of service from Western Electric where she worked as a Technical Editor.  Mrs. Cann volunteered with the Downtown Church Center, Meals on Wheels.  Stella opened her home up to the families of patients who were receiving treatment at Forsyth Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center so they would have a place to stay if they were from cities outside of Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Cann was preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, James Thomas Cann;  a son, Lynn Thomas Cann; five brothers and sisters, Selma Johnson (her twin sister), James Grant, Sadie Lowe, Irene Holder, and Violet Brady.  Mrs. Cann is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Lightsey (Oliver) of Winston-Salem and Judy Seivers (Jerry) of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Cathey Cann of Clemmons, NC; six grandchildren, Julie Hudspeth (David) of Winston-Salem, John Seivers (Cathy) of Winston-Salem, Thomas Cary Cann (Roxane) of Mt. Airy, NC, Grant Cann of Lewisville, NC, Elizabeth Lesage (Jon) of Winston-Salem, and Micha Robinson of Clemmons, NC; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Brianna Seivers, and Lily and Vincent Puckett-Cann; and a special friend of the family, Anthony Jenkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Winston-Salem Friends Meeting with Minister Philip Raines and Forsyth Medical Center Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Mr. Troy Thomas Burton, 61, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at his home. He was born November 14, 1950 to Roy Thomas and Hester Hodges Burton. Troy was a veteran of the US Army serving in Viet Nam and was employed with The Lutheran Church of the Epiphany for the past twelve years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary Burton. Surviving are a sister, Sandra Burton and her family, Stacy, Timothy, Daniel and Austin;; a brother, Randy Burton (Valli) and their family, David, Dale and Madison; a sister, Tammy Hemric (Bobby) and their family, Stefan, Katherine and Jessica; a sister-in-law, Debbie Burton and her family, Gary, Jr. and Christie. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Ray Mohrmann officiating. She was born December 29, 1912 in Yadkin County to James Emory and Victoria Clark Gough.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie David Bowles; a sister and six brothers.  Surviving are a son, David “Shorty” Bowles of Mocksville; a daughter, Ruby Walker and husband Lewis of Advance; two grandchildren, Kathy Cobb and husband Daniel and Beth Walker and two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Sydney Cobb.  A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Pastor Wayne Swisher officiating.  Burial will follow in Yadkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She was born April 13, 1961 in Richmond, VA to Elliott Clyde Shelton Jr. and Anne Moss Shelton.  Cynthia was a PTA Past President and school volunteer.  She was a past board member and volunteer with the Davie YMCA, and also volunteered with the Davie High School football team organizing meals. Cindy had a special gift for gardening and decorating which she used in helping many friends with weddings to special occasions. Surviving are her husband, William C. “Buck” Buchanan, III; two sons, William Logan Buchanan and Andrew Shelton Buchanan; her parents; a step mother, Sally; a brother, Elliott Clyde “Chip” Shelton III of Richmond, VA; her father and mother-in-law, William “Bill” and Barbara Buchanan, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Alphin and husband Robert and Barbara Helms and husband Mike; two nephews, Michael and Brandon Helms and her special best friend, Wendy Chaplin and husband Dale and their two sons, Elliot and Jonathan.  A memorial service will be held 4:00 P.M. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. He was born May 5, 1937 in Greece to the late Taxiarhis and Georgia Janos Tsiakos.  Mr. Tsiakos was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.  He was the former owner of Dixie Pig Bar-B-Que and the Yadkin Plaza Family Restaurant.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed reading.  Mr. Tsiakos was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Preceding him in death was his wife, Christina Tsiakos.  Surviving are a daughter, Georgia Tsiakos Demopoulos and husband Bill; four grandsons, Kosta, Vaios, Christo and Panayoti all of Clemmons; one brother, Elias and three sisters, Despina, Olympia, and Panayota all of Greece; five brothers-in-law, John Strates and family, Chris Strates and family, Gus Strates and family, Paul Strates and family all of Winston-Salem and George of Greece.  A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Demetri Kangelaris, Fr. Thomas Guerry, and Deacon Constantine Shepherd officiating. <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://hayworth-miller.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/154_115299.jpg" alt="Richard J. &quot;Dick&quot; Zeitvogel" />Mr. Richard J. “Dick” Zeitvogel, 72, of Bermuda Run, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  Mr. Zeitvogel was born on March 6, 1939 in Manhattan, NY to Albert and Elsa Sauer Zeitvogel. He acquired a B.S. Degree from Cornell University, where he was also a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 3rd Armored Division Artillery Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.  He was the CEO/President/Founder of Alpine Beverage Distributing, Inc., a beer and wine distribution business.  Before his retirement in 2000, Mr. Zeitvogel was a winner of numerous awards from Stroh Brewery Company and Adolph Coors Company.  He was very active within his work environment and community.  He served as a member on the Stroh Brewery Wholesaler Advisory Panel and board of directors of the North Carolina Beer Wholesaler Association.  Dick was not only active within his work environment,  but also within his community. He served as vice chairman of the Davie County Planning Board, served on the board of directors of the Somerset Owners Association, was a past president of the Highlands Homeowners Association in Bermuda Run, and chairman of Homeowner Association and Litigation committee.  Mr. Zeitvogel enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He was a resident and active member of Bermuda Run County Club, as well as an avid golfer and member of the 50+strong Ritter group.  He enjoyed poker and was a member of the Fellowship of monthly poker group.  Mr. Zeitvogel enjoyed traveling throughout the world, skiing and vacationing at his beach home in Pawley’s Island, SC.  He also was a licensed single and multi-engine rated commercial pilot. Mr. Zeitvogel was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Catherine Zeitvogel; two sons, Steve Zeitvogel of Winston-Salem, and Rick Zeitvogel and wife Kimberly of Charlotte; a stepson, Cade Coleman and wife Heather of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Payton and Cole Zeitvogel and Logan, Alexa and Cooper Coleman; and a brother, Fred and wife Tinka of Weston, MA.  A funeral mass will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. A. J. Gallant officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Mrs. Margaret (Barker) Llewellyn passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Universal Healthcare in King.  She was born May 30, 1922 in Montgomery County, VA to the late Fay Hill Viars and Herman Lee Viars.  Mrs. Llewellyn was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Jewel Barker Metts and husband, Johnny of Walnut Cove; son, Herman Barker and wife, Gay of Rural Hall; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 17 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Terry Rausch officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born December 1, 1927 to Noah and Flora Peterson.  Mrs. Towery was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.  She greatly enjoyed her Sunday school class and her church.  Mrs. Towery was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob, Gene and Joseph Peterson; sisters, Ruth Peterson and Juanita Martin and a grandson, Scott Thompson.  Surviving are her husband, William Myles Towery of the home; three children, Janice Thompson, Mike Towery and wife Judy and Scott Towery and wife Kim; grandchildren, Sandi Graham and husband Blease, Mollie Downey and husband Neel, Laura Capps and husband Matt, Jessica Towery, Jacob Towery and Ben Towery; five great grandchildren, Cole, Scott and Michael Graham, Emma Downey and Solomon Capps; sisters, Betty Rogers and husband David, Ann Lawter and husband Wayne; brothers, Ralph Peterson and wife Sarah, Max Peterson and wife Beverly and John Peterson and many nieces and nephews.
