| Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gaines family. Ed and Genie have been friends for many years. Our lives have been enriched for knowing them and their children. Even though we are saddened at Ed's homegoing, we rejoice that he is now in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully while on earth. What a wonderful example he set for us all. |

| Dear Gaines Family,
We have been praying for you during these difficult weeks. We continue to remember you, especially today as you lay to rest the dear body of your loved one. Rejoicing with you in the certain hope of the resurrection and the comfort in knowing that God's Word, which Pastor Ed so faithfully sowed, will continue to bear fruit until Jesus comes.
Love to you,
Doug and Jane |

| To the Family of Pastor Gaines:
We are visiting with Daniel and family in Sterling, VA, and called home to listen to messages. Hearing a message that Pastor Gaines had gone home to be with the Lord for whom he so faithfully preached and served for many years. May the Lord bless you all during this time. Our love to each one of you, our precious friends. To God be the glory!
With Love, Wayne and Carol |

| Dear Genie, John and family, and Joy and family,
How our thoughts and prayers have been with you during the past few weeks. Be assured that we will continue to pray for you. May the memories of a loving and faithful husband and father comfort you in the days, weeks and months ahead. Truly it is a comfort to know that Ed is with the Lord, but we know that there will be many adjustments for you dear ones. Genie, we pray especially for you on August 18. |

| Dear Mrs. Gaines, Joy, and John,
We were saddened to hear of your loss of a great husband and father. Pastor Gaines was a true man of God and servant of man. We were fortunate to have him at Berean Baptist of Bunker Hill for so many years, and to have him lead us in growing to love and trust God... by carefully and diligently preaching God's Word without injecting his own personal opinion.
At his last sermon at Berean on August 13, 1989, he preached from Deut. 30:16-20--Moses' farewell message. I made a note in my Bible that it took him a long time to read this passage, as he was trying to control his emotions. His first point was that God commands us to love Him from our heart--not by duty.
He also quoted Deut. 26:11 - "And you...shall REJOICE in all the good things the Lord your God has given to you and your household." Ed Gaines was one of those "good things".

| Dear Gaines Family,
Our family received a call just three days ago, and we were so sorry to hear about Pastor Gaines. Bill and I were just recalling our premarital counseling we had with Pastor Gaines a few weeks ago! Your family meant so much to us and we truly appreciated the examples that you set for us.
We will be praying for you Mrs. Gaines and for Joy and John and their families.
With love,
Bill and Stacey Zarges |

| Dear Jeanie, Just heard of Pastor's home-going and want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. What a wonderful blessing it must be to know that as he stood before the throne he heard the words
"Well done thy good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord."
I have many fond memories of our time of saying our memorized verses to each other. With fondest regard,
Barb
