Obituary:
Rev. H. Edward Gaines, 74, of Winston-Salem went home to be with the Lord on August 12, 2008. Rev. Gaines was born August 2, 1934 in Memphis, TN to Henry DeWitt and Alpha Cox Gaines. He attended Bob Jones University, receiving B.S., M.A., and B.D. degrees. He served the Lord faithfully for 47 years as Christian Education Director and Assistant Pastor, Central Baptist Church, Memphis, TN; Pastor, Glenview Baptist Church, Maryland Heights, MO; Pastor, Berean Baptist Church, Bunker Hill, IL; Pastor, Twin City Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC; Pastor, Berean Baptist Church, Hamptonville, NC. During the past 20 years he has served several terms on the board of the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission. He is survived by his loving wife, Genie T. Gaines of the home; a son, John Edward Gaines (Tina) of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Joy Elizabeth Powell (LCDR Jeff) of Bluffton, SC; five grandchildren, Mollie, Meredith, and Luke Gaines, and Lauren and Caleb Powell; two sisters, Martha Whitington of Memphis, TN and Emily Worthy of Dallas, GA; and a brother Stanley Gaines of Waldorf, MD. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. N. A. Thompson III officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Roselawn Memorial Gardens near Wentworth, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
