Miss Aaliyah Rivera, age 11, passed away October 20, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 3, 2005 in New York. She attended Gibson Elementary School in the fifth grade class. Aaliyah will always be remembered as a loving person who enjoyed singing, dancing, modeling, and being with her friends and family. She could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with many friends. Her motto in life was ""Love, Hope, Believe"". God placed Aaliyah with her loving mother and new family at the age of ten months. She is survived by her mother, Minerva Rosa Rivera; step-father, Santos Lara; sisters, Carmen Vazquez (Jaime), Patria Rivera, Minerva Rivera, Destiny Rivera; brothers, Alexander Rivera, Benny Rivera, and Maleek Rivera; her nieces, Minerva Martinez and Analeigh Rivera; a nephew, Jaime Vazquez, Jr.,; her uncles, Richie Anthony, Jonathan Khon (Elizabeth Hasen), and Angel Rosa, Sr.; her aunts, Millie Rosa Rivera and Nancy Rosadro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 27, 2016 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Cook, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the First Responders and the nurses and Doctors at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Memorials may be made to St. Leo the Great Catholic Church Scholarship Fund, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
