Alan Smith

KERNERSVILLE - Alan Vernon Smith, 71, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was born on September 4, 1946 in Winston-Salem, NC. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Vernon W. Smith and mother, Virginia Erwin Smith.
Alan attended Kernersville Elementary School and East Forsyth High School, graduating in 1964. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1977 and spent 2 years in the Navy. Alan enjoyed gathering with his friends and watching sports, especially the Panthers and the Tarheels. He also enjoyed music and was a lifetime fan of The Grateful Dead. He dearly loved all of his fur babies!
Surviving are his wife, Mary Carr Smith; his brother, Neil Martin Smith, and his wife Lynn, of Scottville, NC; his sister, Virginia Lynn Smith of Kernersville; and very special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
