Albert Holcomb, Jr.

Mr. Albert Howard Holcomb, Jr. 80, of East Bend passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1937 in Forsyth County, the son of the late, Albert Howard Holcomb, Sr. and Annie Laurie Conrad Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church where he was active in all aspects of the church. He worked for Forsyth Memorial Hospital even before it was opened, then worked until his retirement with 38 years of loyal service. He then volunteered at the hospital where he was known for his strawberry cakes. He would help anyone who needed it. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Jeanne Brown Holcomb; two sisters, Jo Ann Phelps and Frances Gough; and a special child, Debbie Kidd. Survivors include one son, John Richard Holcomb of Fort Lauderdale, FL and partner, Fred Rubeck; one adopted daughter, Patsy Wajahn of Mocksville; one sister, Gay Lynn Briggs and husband, John of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Barbara Starling of East Bend. The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 10:00 AM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek chapel with Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friend Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church Building and Improvement Fund, 5330 Sharon Church Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.
