Alcie Byars

Mrs. Alcie Louise Orr Byars, 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. She was born on July 24, 1931 to Louise Porter Orr and Daniel Boone Orr in Lockhart, SC. Alcie was an active member of Ardmore Baptist Church for 56 years. She graduated from Winthorp College with a business degree but was an avid Clemson fan. She worked for the Army and Navy serving in a variety of civilian capacities. She also worked for the Employment Security Commission. Alcie loved to travel and enjoyed making new friends along the way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Howard Byars. Surviving are her loving husband of 65 years, George Howard Byars; a daughter, Karen Van Nostrand (Robert Jay) of Clemmons; and two grandchildren, Steven Mark Sutton and Christina Marie Van Nostrand. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Rev. Ty Talton and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
