Alexander Jefferson White, passed on Monday, Jan. 7th. He was born May 4th, 1931 in Stokes County to the late J. Harley and Mary Boles White. He was a loving husband for 51 years to Barbara Grubbs White. He was a kind and peaceful man. He was wise and lived his faith, where he was a member of Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church. In his youth, he worked for Graham Construction, building roads from here to Roan Mountain. He proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Gordon, GA during the Korean Conflict, and kept in touch with many of his friends he made during that time. He loved to tell the stories of those days. He attended Draughn’s Business College and started a career at Western Electric, retiring from AT&T in 1989. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on his farm, working with bees, making molasses, and gardening. He also enjoyed and supported his wife, Barbara, in her art and their many endeavors and travels together. He took great pride in being a dedicated member of the Piedmont Pioneer Masonic Order, going through the chairs to the master level. He gave his time to other charitable groups, such as, the Shriners and Eastern Star. Through-out his life, he made many friends that he cherished. He loved his breakfasts at Hills BBQ, where he would work his word jumble and cryptoquote puzzles. His favorite pass-time was talking about his family history, and telling stories of his ancestors. He enjoyed playing the guitar and bluegrass music. He dearly loved spending time with his grandsons, Devin, Marshall, and Patrick. With all this and more, he had a great life with great stories and a love for his church, his community, and his neighbors. More than all else, his deepest love was for Barbara and his family. In addition to his parents, Jeff is preceded in death by two sisters, Eileene Sidden (Bill), Harriet Fansler (Lonnie); and one brother, Gerald White. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Keith White (Martha) and Greg Boles (Elizabeth); grandsons, Devin Booze, Marshall Boles, and Patrick Boles; a sister-in-law, Diane; along with many nieces and nephews. We would ask, that in lieu of flowers, all memorial donations be made to Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church, 6012 Germanton Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, January 12, at Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wesley McLeod and the Rev. Robert Kerr officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, January 11, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
