Alfred Oneal Holder

Mr. Alfred “Oneal” Holder, 97, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King, NC. He was born October 5, 1926, in Stokes County, NC, to the late Fred Oscar Holder and Stella Sisk Holder.  Oneal served in the United States Army during World War II. While stationed in France, he learned how to play golf leading him to become an avid golfer throughout his life. Oneal loved Jesus and was very faithful to his church serving in many capacities including church treasurer for 36 years.  Oneal was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as hunting, fishing, gardening, and tennis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Virginia Lane Holder; two brothers, J.W. Holder and Curtis Holder; and two sisters, Audrey Bowen and Gladys Sands. He is survived by his two children, Donna H. Boyles (David C.) and Dale Holder (Donna); three grandchildren, James D. Boyles, Laura Adams (Shawn), and Kayla Gravitt (Thomas); three great-grandchildren, Kinley Boyles, Holden Adams, and Aubrey Adams; one sister, Almeta Bowen; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 12pm Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in King with Rev. Drew Southern officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church in King. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the General Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 725 W. Dalton Rd., King, NC 27021.  The family would like to thank Priddy Manor Assisted Living and Mountain Valley Hospice for their care and compassion to Oneal.
