Mr. Allayne ‘Al’ Canon Coleman, age 78, who resided in Lexington, NC, passed away on December 9, 2025.
Al was born on November 26, 1947, in Person County, NC to the late Stanton William Coleman & Ada Montgomery Stewart Coleman. He attended High Plains Indian School & graduated from Bethel Hill High School in 1967. During the Vietnam era, Al was drafted into the US Army & deployed to Germany to complete his term. Al was proud that his son, Jerremy, & grandson, Dylan, followed in his footsteps by serving in the ARMY as well. Al was employed by RJRT in the Maintenance/HVAC department & retired with 30+ years of service. He enjoyed playing golf, but NASCAR was his favorite pastime that he followed for many years. He was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Robin Johnson Coleman; children, Jerremy Coleman of Lexington, Brian Coleman of Winston Salem, Mark Thompson (Laura) of Lexington and Heather Pennell (John) of Winston Salem. Grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Olivia Coleman, Dylan Coleman, Emma Thompson, Isaiah Pennell, Kolton Pennell & Bella Winfrey. Also surviving are his brothers, Ted (Theresa) Coleman of Lexington, Robert Coleman of Durham, Elmo Coleman of Durham, & Alvin (Doris) Coleman of Bahama; his sisters, Lora (Keith) Brewer of Reidsville, Carol (Phillip) Myers of Oak Ridge, Anita (Steve) Schaffer of Durham, Beth (Mark) Decherd of Charlotte & Connie (Wendell) Cox of Roxboro and numerous nieces & nephews. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Shirley Johnson & brother-in-law, Tim Johnson of Winston Salem. In addition, a special uncle & aunt, Phillip & Linda Coleman, of Davidson who supported & loved Al like their own son. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his infant brother, Timothy John Coleman, his sister-in-law, Angela Coleman, father-in-law, Robert Johnson & brother-in-law, Ronnie Johnson.
A Celebration of Life & Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 3:00pm at Friedberg Moravian Church in Winston Salem, NC by Rev. Jim Newsome and Pastor Charlie Martin. Burial will follow in the Friedberg Moravian Graveyard across from the church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service or after the service in the church fellowship hall.
