Mrs. Alma Petty Smith, 95, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Alleghany County on October 20, 1922. Mrs. Smith retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 25 years of service and was owner and operator of Smith's Fishing Lakes for 50 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Taylor Petty and stepfather, Guy Petty; her husband, Lloyd Morgan Smith and a great granddaughter, Cherie' V. Smith. Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Hicks (Delma); a son, Jerry Smith (Mary); seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Hicks (Kathy), Dale Hicks, Keith Hicks (Wendy), Lloyd M. Smith, Jerry Wayne Smith (Renee), Stephen Pfaff Smith (Doris) and Deidre Jarvis (Clayton); eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Rennie Adcock officiating. Interment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
