Alton “Al” Rodney Yow, Sr., 68, of Winston-Salem, NC, entered the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Al was born on September 2, 1957, in Forsyth County to Joan Pfaff Yow and Lawrence Curtis Yow, Sr.
Following graduation from Parkland High School (class of ‘75), Al worked for McDonald’s for 26 years, where he was a manager and opened several stores in the area. He also served as a firefighter and EMT for several years with Gumtree Fire Department and Forsyth County EMS, where he served on several specialized teams. In 1999, Al and his wife, Susan, opened the Olde Orchard Diner. After 16 years of faithfully serving their community, they sold the Diner to enjoy retirement and to focus on what mattered most to them- their family.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Curtis Yow, Sr., and his brother, Lawrence Curtis Yow, Jr.
Al is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan Yow; mother, Joan Pfaff Yow; children, Rodney Yow (Miranda), Kendra Wolfe (Brandon), Josh Foster, and Mandy Wall (Chris), and 8 grandchildren: Katelyn, Skylar, Emilynn, Carter, Luke, Dylan, Emilia, and Benjamin. He also had a trusted canine companion, Zoe, who was always by his side (or on his lap).
The family would like to express gratitude to his oncology team, Dr. McCormack, April (PA), and Tanna (RN), along with his hospice nurse, Kellie.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00PM at Faith Church located at 1078 Gumtree Road Winston-Salem, NC 27107, with Pastors Mike Gates and Brandon Wolfe officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00PM at the church. Al requested casual attire and to come as you are.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith Church and Wallburg Baptist Church Building Fund.
