Andy Marcum Jr., 70, passed away on October 13, 2023, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Andy was born on September 22, 1953, in Kenova, West Virginia to Andy and Janie (Merritt) Marcum. During high school, he was a champion wrestler, even successfully wrestling a bear. Andy served his country in the Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged, he held many jobs, including construction and working with his wife, Carri. Andy had a huge heart and loved to help others, once literally giving the shirt off his back to someone in need. He enjoyed volunteering with local animal charities and provided a loving home to many rescue dogs with his wife. Additionally, he coached Little League for his son, Ryan. Andy was also extremely quick-witted and made everyone laugh. People gravitated to him and wanted to be in his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Doris Holley and Debra Marcum; his brother, Sidney Marcum; and his brothers-in-law, Dean Cooper, Sr., Sammy Mooney, and Duane Clemons. Andy is survived by his loving wife, Carri Nelson Marcum; his sons, Ryan Marcum (Brinkley), Tyler Marcum (Michael Robertson), and Andrew Fuquay; granddaughters, Lucy and Annie Mae; sisters, Lois Kirk (Andy), Carol Ward (Russ), Patricia Mooney, Brenda Cooper, Sue Clemons; and brother, Danny Marcum (Brenda). A celebration of Andy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Robert F. Miller Center at Hayworth-Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fur-Ever Friends of North Carolina, P.O. Box 15742, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27113.
