Mrs. Ann Ernest Barber, 89, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at Forsyth Medical Center. Ann was born in Forsyth County to the late Grover Allen and Julia Speaks Ernest on November 28, 1934. She ran Libby Hill Seafood in the Waughtown neighborhood until her retirement. As someone with a love for numbers, she went on to work as a tax preparer for H&R Block. Ann loved to read and enjoyed traveling with her husband Kenneth to the beach and Las Vegas. She was a selfless person who did everything she could to help others. However, above all these things, she was a proud Grammy. She absolutely loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Barber and her brother, Jack Ernest.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lisa Kinney (Woody) of Winston-Salem, Vickie O’Toole (Fred) of Travelers Rest, SC, and Kenneth Barber (Bridgette) of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6-8PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association and/or the SPCA of the Triad.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Ann’s caregivers, Wanda and Donna as well as the team at Brookdale. Your kindness and care meant the world to them. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
