Ann Martin

Mrs. Ann Marene Kiger Martin, widow of the late Thurman Joe Martin, died October 7, 2018 at 2:20 am in Davidson County at Grayson Creek Assisted Living, attended by her daughters.  Ann was born September 4, 1931 in Forsyth County, the fourth daughter of the late Luther M. and Faye Mitchell Kiger and was a lifelong resident of Winston Salem, NC.  She attended Griffith High School in Winston Salem, NC. As a teen she worked at Kress Drug Store downtown with many great memories of that time, with her lifelong friends Ruby Proctor, Jackie Clinard and the late Melba Sidden.  She is survived by two daughters, Jan M. Smith (Don/Dink) and Lynn M. Sharpe (Terry, Sr.), six grandchildren: Chandra S. Damron (Bart), Heather S. Jessup, Jennifer L. Smith (Mohammad Butt), Amy S. Jones (Chad), Terry L. Sharpe, Jr. (Kemily) and John B. Sharpe (Melissa) plus 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Sue K. East (Bob), as well as many very beloved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her spouse of 56 years, Thurman Joe Martin along with three sisters: Helen K. Burgess (Walter), Margie K. Ledford (Toby) and Dale K. Blevins (Earl). Ann loved attending her church, Mt. Carmel Methodist, and was a proud member of the Faye Kiger Circle, so named for her mother. She was active in all senior activities, a Canasta club and many other activities as her health allowed and was much beloved by her family and friends.  She never met a stranger and always had a joke ready to make you smile.  The Celebration of Life service for Ann will be held at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church located at 4265 Ebert Rd. in Winston Salem, NC on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Mary Miller officiating.  The family will receive other family members on that date from noon until 1:00 pm, and then all friends are welcome to convene to share memories from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road.
