Mrs. Ann Reid, 85, passed away on July 27, 2023, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born on October 8, 1937, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Robert Seifert and Louise Hancock Seifert. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Ann was a kind, caring, silly, and adventurous soul who loved people and animals. She taught her children the importance of kindness and laughter, and she always had a way of making people feel special. Ann's love for people led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher at both the Career Center and Parkland High School in Winston-Salem. Her students adored her, and many kept in touch with her long after leaving school. Ann's impact as an educator was evident whenever she would bump into former students around the city, who would always express their fond memories of her.
In addition to her passion for teaching, she also had a love for learning and connecting with others. Ann was a lifelong learner and never met a stranger. Ann had a remarkable ability to strike up conversations with anyone she met, whether it was at a restaurant, while traveling, or waiting in line at a store. She cherished these interactions and often knew the life stories of her newfound friends within just a few moments.
Ann's interests included being an avid NC State fan. She and her husband, David, held season tickets to Wolfpack football games and enjoyed having their friends, kids or grandkids join them for tailgating and game festivities. Camping was another passion of Ann's, and she and David embarked on numerous camping trips throughout the years. Eventually, they traded in their RV for a house at Badin Lake, where many cherished family gatherings took place. Ann was also actively involved in the community, proudly serving as a member of the Woman's Club of Winston-Salem GFWC. She also dedicated time to volunteering with the PAW Alliance New Leash on Life program, which partnered with the Forsyth Correctional Center and the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club, allowing inmates to train shelter dogs for adoption. Their beloved dog, Abbie, was adopted from this program.
Ann is survived by her loving husband, David Franklin Reid; her children, Ben Miles (Lyn) and Julie Miles; her grandchildren, Luke Miles (Caroline), Chelsea Nuzum (Justin), and Rheagan Trevillian (Adam); and her great-grandchildren, Spencer Miles, Emmie Miles, Rowan Nuzum, and Nora Nuzum.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 2nd at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, located at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
