Let us celebrate Anna Mae Barbee, a spunky, fiercely independent 98 year-old/young retired registered nurse and nursing instructor at Baptist Hospital. When not reading or watching her afternoon “story,” Anna enjoyed water aerobics and tai chi. She also loved trips to the beach and fishing, going to craft shows, but most of all her family and friends.
Born to Joseph Seddon and Jemima Sapp Barbee, Anna loved to say she was born in 1925 – just to see people’s reaction when they realized her age.
Anna was baptized at Fries Moravian Church, lived her entire life in Winston-Salem, and was a current member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters Ruby, Richard, Elma, and Joe, and by her beloved pets, Molly, Missy, Henry, and Hilda.
Anna is survived by her nephew, Sam Barbee (Jan); her great-nephew, Drew; her great-niece, Anna; her special friends, Peggy and Jim Vogel, and Linda Sapp; and her dear neighbors.
The family is grateful for the attentive Hospice care that she received from her care team from Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, in the last few weeks of life.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, at 10:00AM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
