Mrs. Annie Pearl Carter ""Maw-Maw"" Lanning, 99, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at her home. She was born November 21, 1910 in Davie County to Philmore Rasmus and Lela Smith Carter. Mrs. Lanning was a member of South Fork Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for 62 year and a choir member. She was president of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). She was owner of South Fork Cloth Shop for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Thomas Lanning; two sons, Bobby J. ""Bob"" Lanning and William C. ""Bill"" Lanning and wife Christine Lanning; four brothers, Milton Carter, Ross Carter, Walter ""Pete"" Carter and James Carter; two sisters, Minnie Howard and Mae Carter; one granddaughter, Vicki Koehmstedt. Surviving are a daughter-in-law Wilma Lanning; seven grandchildren, Teena Stewart, Phillip Lanning, Patricia Justice, Wendy Webb, William Lanning, Jr, Rozanne Carroll and Amy Woodall; fifteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Carter of Advance; and two sisters, Vida Allen of Lenoir and Ruth Hockaday of Advance. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 19 at South Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Sewell officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 18 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dolores Clontz, Gaye Nell Woodall, Cindy Lanning, Joe Woodall and Ed Walter for the care they took of Maw-Maw over the past several years.
