Anthony "Gray" Cassell

Anthony “Gray” Cassell, age 63, of Kernersville passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, N.C. He was born in Surry County on July 27, 1963, to the late Billy Gray and Martha Jean Cassell.

Gray graduated from North Surry High School and East Carolina University with a BS in Information Systems. He operated as the Chief Information Officer for the Town of Kernersville. He also loved photography and found joy in taking photos for the community, whether that be for the Kernersville Little Theatre, town events, or headshots for town officials. Gray will be remembered for his personability – He could start a conversation with just about anyone and find a way to connect with them. He was a pillar for organizations in information technology world and acted as a mentor for many. He will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 40 years, Beverly “BJ” Cassell; his son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Sarah Cassell; two grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Jack Wyrick: a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Kayla Cassell: brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Pam Johnson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a multitude of friends and acquaintances.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.
