Anthony Goebel

Kernersville - Anthony Henry Goebel, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Anthony was born on July 7th, 1917 in Ambridge, PA to Matthias Alvin Goebel and Barbara Walter Goebel. He was a decorated WWII P-51D fighter pilot and Veteran who was a cherished member of VFW Post 9010. Anthony was a devoted friend, loving father, and faithful husband of 60 years. He enjoyed building and flying all forms of aircraft from fixed wing to rotor-craft. In his 40's, Anthony flew aerobatic demonstrations of a modified Benson Gyrocoptor for the Cleveland National Airshow; and until his 90's, he trained Ultralight pilots in Kernersville, NC. In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthias J. , "Matt" and Alvin "Al" Goebel and both sisters, Katharine and Martha. He is survived by his three children, Robert Anthony Goebel, Anthony John Goebel, and Susan Goebel Bowman; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A funeral service for Anthony will be held at 7:15 PM on Monday, August 6th, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek location. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
