Arnold Wilson Rice

Mr. Arnold Wilson Rice, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. He was born in Madison Co., NC on June 5, 1930 the son of the late Charlie Burton Rice and Cora Etta Chandler Rice. Mr. Rice served his country proudly as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Lanny Whitman and his siblings, Carly, Harvey, Rachel and Rose. He is survived by his wife, Betty Rice; three sons, Tracy Whitman, Ricky Whitman (Donna) and Phillip Whitman (Eva); two grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and a sister, Mary Ruth Higgins (Harold). Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Dr. Pat Mabe officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pfafftown. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Ln., Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank Village Care of King and Mountain Valley Hospice for their love and care shown to Arnold during his time of need.
