On Saturday evening, May 23rd, around 8:00 pm, Art Johnson went to the grocery store to buy coconut-cream cake. When he got back home, he had a slice, changed into his pajamas, and went to bed. Sometime between then and the next morning, he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Arthur was raised in Roselle, New Jersey, the son of Arthur James Johnson Jr. (deceased) and Sarah Bayliss (Tucker) Johnson (deceased). The oldest of eight children, he was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Johnson and Robert Johnson, along with his sisters Janice Adams, Jean Herbert, and Alice Johnson-Jamerson. He is survived by his sisters, Cheryl Johnson and Bayliss Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Living until the age of 93, He lived as full a life as anyone could hope for. He attended Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, where he excelled in academics and sports. Tennis was a lifelong passion. He entered the Air Force after high school and, upon discharge, attended Newark Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in engineering, and went on to enjoy a successful career.
He married Augusta Miller and had two children, Aundrea Johnson Balestrieri and Arthur Johnson IV. Upon retirement, he relocated to North Carolina to be closer to his two grandchildren, Francesca Balestrieri and Arthur Johnson V, also known as Quint. During this time, he was as loving and doting as any grandfather could be. Those who knew him knew he always had a smile on his face, a story to tell, and a project in the works. Always tinkering. And always, engineering was his unofficial motto.
It is comforting to think that his last moments here on Earth were spent doing the things that he loved to do. He will be missed by all who know and loved him.
