Athanasios George Vlahos, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Monday morning, December 15, 2014.
Mr. Vlahos was born in the village of Fithakia in Evrytania, Greece in 1925 to his parents, George and Konstandina Vlahos and was the oldest of six children. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church and also active in the Greek Orthodox monasteries. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Vlahos; daughter, Dina Mastoras (Pete); two granddaughters, Eva Mastoras and Maria Mastoras; two sisters, Maria Georgopoulos and Voula Rigas; brother, Sam Vlahos (Georgia); and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Athanasios Vlahos will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. After the Makaria, burial will follow at Panagia Prousiotissa Monastery, 404 Warner Road, Troy, NC 27371. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with a Trisagiou Service at 7:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Panagia Prousiotissa Monastery.
