Audrey LaCourse Parsons

Audrey LaCourse Parsons, 94, passed away early on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Bristol, Conn., on July 31, 1914, the daughter of Omer and Julia LaCourse. She was the first member of the family to attend college, graduating from Connecticut College with a degree in mathematics in 1935, and worked at the Aetna Insurance Co. where she met her future husband, John M. ""Jack"" Parsons, also from Bristol. They were married on Aug. 17, 1941. Among other places, Audrey lived in Plymouth, Mass., and Wakefield, R.I., before retiring to St. Petersburg, Fla., with her husband. In 2003, she moved to Brookridge in Winston-Salem to be near her son and daughter. She was predeceased by her husband in 1989. She is survived by her sister, Vivien Heffernan of Bristol, Conn.; her son, Jay Parsons, and daughter-in-law Linn of Winston-Salem; her daughter, Noelle Granger, and son-in-law Gene of Chapel Hill; and three grandchildren, Holly Parsons, Cameron Granger and Patrick Granger (USA). We will remember her for her unconditional love, kindness, wit, intelligence and the care she freely gave to everyone she knew. We give thanks to all her doctors and caregivers, and we give special thanks for the care given by the nursing staff at Brookridge and Hospice of Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in her memory be made to St. Leo' s Catholic Church; Hospice of Winston-Salem; or the American Red Cross. ""We are so lightly here. It is in love that we are made. In love we disappear."" - Leonard Cohen.
