Ms. Barbara “Barb” Daniel Blake, 78, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, October 19, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Barb was born in Forsyth County on October 14, 1948, to the late Woodrow and Mamie Howard Nelums. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service.
Barb had a personality as fabulous as her style! She loved to shop, always made sure her hair was fixed and her nails were done, and never missed an opportunity to look her best. Her family affectionately called her a “diva,” and she wore that title well! Whether she was enjoying a day of shopping, dining out, traveling, or working on a crossword puzzle, Barb knew how to enjoy life. She also had a special fondness for horror movies, proving that a little glamour and a little fright made for the perfect combination. Barb was involved with the Red Hat Society and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and Believer’s Missionary Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her love of life, and the special way she brought laughter and joy to those around her.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her son, Richard “Ricky” Daniels, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Darius Daniels (Courtney) and Terrance Nelums; brothers, Rev. Melvin Nelums (Betty), Ronald Dennis (Rosetta), and Larry Nelums (Avis); a noble grandchild, Terrance Nelums, Jr. (Teal); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
