Barbara Buchanan

Mrs. Barbara Louise Kline Buchanan, 81, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born in Reading, PA, Barbara was the daughter of Alton D. Kline and Dorothy Sterner Kline who preceded her in death.

Barbara was a graduate of RJ Reynolds High School and employed in the art department (Technical Publications) at Western Electric until starting her family in 1957. Living in Greensboro, NC for her first ten years of marriage, she was active in the Junior Woman's Club, Girl Scouts and Brownies as a Scout Leader.

A wonderful mother who played such an enormous role in each of her children's lives. She was truly the family matriarch. Barbara was an excellent artist, specializing in flowers, birds, and landscapes in color pencil or water colors. She enjoyed serving St. Theresa's Guild, playing bridge, entertaining friends, and being active in dinner and art clubs as her health allowed.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William C. (Bill) Buchanan; brother, Dr. David Kline (Laura) of Winston Salem and Madison, WI; three children, William C. (Buck) Buchanan III and wife Donna of Advance, NC, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Alphin and husband Robert of Winston Salem, NC, Barbara Ellen Helms and husband Mike of Hickory, NC; four grandchildren, William Logan Buchanan (Amanda) of Greensboro, NC, Andrew Shelton Buchanan of Sterling, VA, Michael Helms of Winston Salem, NC and Brandon Helms of Hickory, NC. Surviving also brother-in-law, Donald Buchanan (Dorothy) of Frankfort, KY, several nieces and nephews as well as a very special niece, Mae Kline Ashby (David) of Lake May, FL.

The Buchanan family would like to thank the many doctors that helped with her health issues; Dr. Michael Garrison and nurse Robin, Dr. Larry Cantley, Dr. Elliott Semble, Dr. Mitchell Isaac, Dr. Lai Chow Kok, Dr. Rebecca Henderson and Dr. Maria Iruela. A sincere thank you to the staff at Miss Daisies Caregivers, Salemtowne, Novant Health Acute Palliative Care and Trellis Supportive Care. We could not have done it without the support of these gifted, humble, serving individuals.

Barbara was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, and an associate member of Friedland Moravian Church.
