Barbara Winebarger Harvey, 72, joined with the church triumphant on March 13, 2024. If you needed a listening ear, a caring conversation, a strong-willed advocate for the right and good - Barbara was the perfect lady. She was always ready with a smile, funny story, or special memory of loved ones or past adventures. She shared many caring conversations, often with even complete strangers. She was happiest around a crowd, enjoying good food, ridding to see and admire the world around her (especially blooming flowers) and discovering the beauty of God’s creation. Her great, seemingly limitless love and unwavering strength was most clearly shown caring for others, especially her family, as she did her whole entire life.
Loving and devotedly married to Boyd for 53 years. The Best Mom in the world to Jason. Barbara was a caring daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin. Her countless friends were loved as family too. She was the best doggie grandmom to three Golden Retrievers: Maggie, Penny, and Rosie.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Randall, and Juanita Winebarger, and two sisters, Patricia Wood and Linda Smith - for whom she cared for selflessly and with the most dedicated heart.
She was a strong woman of Faith and a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. A lifelong United Methodist. Barbara was a supporter of the United Way, SECCA, and many other helping and community agencies over the years. Her career at Hanes/HBI spanned for over 48 years - every day experienced with many wonderful colleges and friends - daily tasks were completed with as much office fun and laugher as could be managed and still get the work done with perfection.
A celebration of her life will be held at College Place United Methodist Church, 509 Tate St., Greensboro, on Sunday, March 17 at 3:00. With reception and fellowship to follow. Service will be officiated by The Rev. Toni Ruth Smith, The Rev. Dianne Marsden, The Rev. Robert “Bob” M. Smith, Jr., and The Rev. Dr. Jason W. Harvey. The service will be live-streamed at collegeplaceumc.com
Memorials may be made to College Place United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
