Barbara Payne Jessup

Mrs. Barbara Payne Jessup, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 1, 2026, at her care facility. She was born on April 3, 1947, the daughter of the late Beauford Lee Payne and Ruth McCraw Payne. Barbara loved spending time with her family, fishing at Emerald Isle, reading, drinking her Mountain Dew, spending time at the beach and sitting by the fire. She will be remembered for her crocheting, her buttermilk pies and her famous red velvet cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Jessup, her son, Jody Jessup, a sister, Shirley Gordon and her husband Fred, and a niece, Dawn Gordon. Barbara is survived by her son, Terry Jessup; a brother, Eddie Payne; a sister Rhonda North and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Jessup will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Randy Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in King. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
