Barbara Oxendine

Mrs. Barbara Bessie Bennett Oxendine, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Stokes County on May 8, 1932 to Roy Sanford and Bessie Tilley Bennett. Barbara was an adventurous woman at heart, and she enjoyed television and music. She loved to dance. Barbara was a God-fearing member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. She loved to have people around her and loved to cook. She enjoyed going to the mountains and to the beach. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by one son, Robert Hill; five sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ben Oxendine; two daughters, Geraldine Oxendine (husband, Jessie) and Annette Burton (husband, Eddie); three sons, Wayne Hill (wife, Lillian), Little Ben Oxendine, and Chuck Oxendine; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Georgialee “Dee” George; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow the service at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville.
