Barbara Darnell Roten

Mrs. Barbara Darnell Roten peacefully passed away on June 22, 2025. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, to Frank and Ruby Darnell, Barbara was one of six children who grew up on a small farm in the mountains of North Carolina.

Barbara was a devoted wife to the late Archie Roten, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship. Together, they enjoyed simple pleasures — including spending time on the water fishing, gardening and cooking. Rarely seen apart, their bond was an enduring example of love and partnership.

Barbara found great joy in being a homemaker. She was a loving mother to her son, Tony Roten, Lisa (daughter-n-law) and a proud grandmother to Landon Roten. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Archie Roten; her brother, Johnny Darnell; and her sister, Mary Higgins.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Tony Roten (Lisa) and grandson, Landon. Four brothers — Bill Darnell, Bobby Darnell, James Darnell, and Eddie Darnell — and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Robert F. Miller Center at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

Barbara will be remembered for her kind heart, her love of family, and the warm, quiet presence she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.
