Barbara Jean Elliott Yancey (Boots) went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2025. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born to Willie T. and Thelma Elliott on May 7, 1932.
Living through the depression taught her how to stretch a dollar beyond its breaking point, a skill she never gave up. Boots was a dedicated and disciplined student and graduated valedictorian of her high school class. After graduation she married Francis Yancey (Yank) and moved to Winston-Salem where she lived for the rest of her life.
They were married for over 71 years until Francis’s death in 2023. She was a faithful and active member of Konnoak Baptist Church for over 58 years. After a move in 2003 she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she remained active and faithful. She was always eager to share with others what the Lord had done in her life. Barbara was a hard worker at everything she did and always expected the best from herself and others. She worked in various jobs during her adult life and enjoyed each of them. She particularly enjoyed being a teacher’s assistant at South Fork Elementary School, and as owner and operator with Francis of McLendon Tax Service.
After retirement, she continued to work hard volunteering. She was always wanting to help others. But her favorite roles were wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed the beach and would go as often as her busy schedule would allow. She is survived by four children- Al (Beth), Steve (Sandy), Rhonda (Scott) and Sandra; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Brett, David, Alyssa, Matt, John, Jennifer and Travis; ten great grandchildren, Preston, Caden, Whitley, Cash, Daniel, Lily, Elliott, Banks, Briggs and Benson; and two brothers, Bill (Camilla) and Jim (Paula).
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice Home for their compassionate care during her final days and to Deborah Calloway for her loving care during the last year of her life.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Hayworth Miller on Silas Creek Parkway with Dr. James Joseph officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem or to one’s own local church.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
