Barbra Golding Simmons

Mrs. Barbra Jean Golding Simmons, 91, passed away Monday, October 19, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 8, 1935, in Surry County to the late Louis Franklin Golding and Grace Eleanor Fulk Golding. Barbra was a very generous soul that loved to give any extra vegetables she had to her family or to her neighbors. She loved her family fiercely and her church. She enjoyed visiting the shut-ins and believed, “Rich is the woman who has a praying friend”. Barbra was one of 13 children, a very proud great grandmother, a huge Tar Heel fan and a Big-Time prayer warrior, who was bold in her faith to witness to others about her Savior. Barbra’s favorite teachings were those of Nicodemus: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God”….”You must be born again.” John3:3; 3:5-7

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eight siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are; her loving husband, Jimmie “Bud” Ray Simmons; her son, Mark Simmons (wife, Amy); granddaughter, Brittany Gerringer (husband, Brian); grandson, Bryce Simmons (wife, Madison); two great grandchildren, Aubrey Gerringer, and Hudson Simmons; three brothers, Buck Golding (wife, Shirley), Kurt Golding, and Mike Golding (wife, Diane); and one sister, Mildred Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Kerwin Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Newsome and Pastor Jacob Gerald officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
