Barry Garrett

Mr. Barry Robert Garrett, 71, of Winston-Salem passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 18, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA to John Calvin Garrett and Shirley Johnson Garrett. Mr. Garrett served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict and received a purple heart. After retiring from IBM with 20 years of service, he retired from State Employee's Credit Union. Mr. Garrett loved to sing and read. He enjoyed the music of the 50's and 60's and his favorite group was the Temptations. Surviving are his wife, Wendy Garrett; four daughters, Leslie Fisher, Bridgette Johnson, Kelly Garrett, Jessica Garrett; one son, Barry Robert Garrett, Jr.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Marsha Blevins, Joann Burgess, and Sheryl Garrett. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37389, Boone, IA 50037 or give blood in Barry's honor.
