KERNERSVILLE - Barry Reid Swaim, 63, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehab. Barry was born on July 19, 1954 in Forsyth County to the late Herbert Harrison and Carolyn Wells Swaim. He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School and attended East Carolina University. Barry started playing sports at a young age and was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels. He was very athletic, enjoying Little League baseball and lots of late night hoops behind his house on Cherry Street.
As a teenager, Barry had an interest in modeling which led him to a career in Men's Clothing. He was the manager for The Hub, Ltd. Menswear for many years before working at JoS A. Banks Clothier in Greensboro. After a debilitating stroke in 2014, Barry continued his fight until his passing. Although his personal struggles overrode some good things in his life, he had a tender heart and was thankful for the love of his family and friends. His great smile was accompanied by an infectious laugh that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa Ladd Swaim; his son, Reid Swaim; his daughter, Jes Swaim; his step-daughter, Audrey Albury; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Anna, and Jamie Albury; a sister, Jeanie Stanley (Don) of Greenville, NC; a brother, Herb Swaim, Jr. (Nancy); many nieces and nephews; and two devoted lifelong friends, Joey Coffey and Art Crews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
