Bernadine C. Wehner passed away in her son's home in Purlear, North Carolina on August 19, 2008. She was 94 years young. Bernadine was born Bernadine Czaplewski on March 4, 1914 in Manistee, Michigan. Her parents were Polish immigrants; she had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. The family moved to the Chicago, Illinois area where Bernadine worked for Western Electric and started her own family. Her new family moved to Winston-Salem in 1947 with Western Electric and Bell Telephone System. She retired from Western Electric in 1979 after over 35 years of service. She enjoyed bus-tour traveling and many ocean cruises during her retirement. She visited many of the Caribbean Islands, Europe and China. Bernadine is survived by her three children; a daughter, Lenell and husband Larry Craver of Winston-Salem; another daughter, Lynn and husband Jack Maginnis of Winston-Salem; and son, Tim and wife Suzanne of Purlear, NC; four grandchildren, Karen Phillips of Sherrills Ford, NC, Jacquelyn McMillen of Ocala, FL, Kevin Craver of Winston-Salem and Brendan Maginnis of Charlotte, NC; and one great grandchild, Danica McMillen of Ocala, FL. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Link Rd. in Winston-Salem on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a memorial gift be sent to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607.
