Bessie "Betsy" Dawkins Vestal

Bessie (""Betsy"") Dawkins Vestal died on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 74. Bessie was a loving mother and wife. Throughout her life, she found joy in her friends and family, the beauty of the Carolina mountains and beaches, bird watching, puzzles, and traveling. She was born in Rockingham, NC to the late Eugene Dennis Dawkins and Myrtle Blake Dawkins, and is survived by her daughter, Karen Vestal Hays and her husband Mike, and her son, Stephen Bryan Vestal. Her family includes six siblings: Donald Dawkins, Jean Dawkins Sandberg, Douglas Dawkins, Roger Dawkins, and the late Martha Dawkins McNeill and Benjamin Dawkins. Bessie is a graduate of Appalachian State University. She was gifted with a keen understanding of science, and shared her talents first as a biology teacher and then as a computer programmer for Bowman Gray School of Medicine and Autrec. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. at West Rockingham United Methodist Church.
