Bettie Shaw

Bettie Whicker Shaw, 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
She was born on February 9, 1935 in Forsyth County to the late Beulah Smith Whicker Mathis and Clarence C. Whicker in the Old Town-Bethabara area. She grew up on her grandfather's farm, which she always counted as a blessing. Bettie graduated from Old Town High School and attended Draughon Business College. While working at the Robin Hood Drive-In, owned by her parents, she met the love of her life, A. Francis Shaw. They married on January 19, 1962 and lived in Lewisville until his death in 1982. After her husband's passing, Bettie spent many years in East Bend (waiting for the deer to show up and watching birds). Everywhere she worked she loved her job, especially working with children in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She was a long-time member of Lewisville UMC and later Harmony Grove UMC.
Bettie is survived by her son, the Rev. S. Neill Shaw (Selwyn) of Union Grove; her daughter, Robin Shaw (Eli Webb) of Candler; two grandchildren, Benjamin Shaw of Galax, VA and Bethany Shaw Harner (Austin) of Union Grove; her sister, Barbara Ferguson (Larry) of King; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at 4:00 PM at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.
