Betty Ann Kenny Austin, 86, died in the presence of her family on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 2, 1930 in the Bronx, New York City, to George H. and Elizabeth Robbins Kenny. She grew up in Delmar, New York and was a member of the first graduating class of the School of Nursing at Boston University. She married James L. Austin in 1952. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Kenny. She is survived by her children, Deborah and husband, Bruce; Michael and wife, Becky; and Timothy; and by her grandchildren, Benjamin and Gabriel. She liked her kitties, was accepting of everyone, supportive in everything. As a member of the Altar Guild at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, she made bouquets of the service flowers every Sunday, and took them to brighten the Senior Services Adult Day Center. She volunteered at Crisis Control Ministries for twenty six years. Normally averse to the spotlight she somehow acquired IMDb acting credits for small parts in two independent films. She instilled in her grandsons a love of the library, Lego sets, and cream soda. Through years of Sunday family dinners, she would set out the relish tray, peel the potatoes with a paring knife, make the pie crusts from scratch. Most times, there were nine seats around the table. Now there are seven. We love her, and we will miss her. A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crisis Control Ministry, 200 E. 10th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or Senior Services, Inc., 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
