Betty Sweet Cunningham

Betty Sweet Cunningham, 79, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Pawley’s Island, SC. She was born in Forsyth County, NC on August 14, 1947, to the late Edgar Lawrence “E.L.” Sweet and Hazel Harper Sweet. Betty was a devoted Christian, who loved her family well. She enjoyed collecting recipes, cooking, camping, and she was quite competitive during family game nights. She enjoyed the simple things of life, such as spending time with family and friends or her weekly ladies’ Bible study. In addition to her parents, also preceding her in death was her husband and the love of her life, James “Jim” Cunningham. Surviving family members include two sons, Patrick Cunningham and David Cunningham (Erin); daughter, Susan Long (Aaron); four grandchildren, Sean (Elissa), Andrew, Dustin (Katelyn), and Emma; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Caden, and Gracelynn; also surviving are two brothers, Steve Sweet (Shirley) and Jeff Sweet (Darlene), and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at South Fork Church of Christ (205 Keating Dr., Winston-Salem, NC) with Matt Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
