Betty Denny Hutchins

Mrs. Betty Rebecca Denny Hutchins, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Forsyth County on March 22, 1928 to Fred and Ethel Hendrix Denny. Mrs. Hutchins graduated from Hanes High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. She was Curriculum Director of hospitality in the community colleges for ten counties that was based in Forsyth Tech. Mrs. Hutchins was the first woman assistant manager of the Carolina Inn in Pinehurst. She was an avid golfer. She scored 5 official holes-in-one and was the 8 time club champion at Wilshire Golf Club. She lived her lifelong dream of being score keeper for Arnold Palmer at Greater Greensboro Open. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bud Denny. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles Hutchins; three children, Robert Lewis and wife Rikki of Winston-Salem, Susan H. Link and husband Jim of New London, Jeffrey Hutchins and partner Charles Kovach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Don P. Denny of Texas; and a large extended family at Wilshire Golf Club. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Wilshire Golf Club clubhouse.
