Mrs. Betty Jean Mays, 77, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Surry Co. on March 17, 1942 the daughter of the late Elmer Stewart and Mary Viola George Stewart. Betty loved the Lord and was faithful to her church. She loved others dearly and always put others before herself. Betty loved to work in her yard, especially in flower gardens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Hall and a brother, Larry Lee Stewart. Betty is survived by her children, Jimmy Dale Mays (Cendy), Sandy Renee Mays and Julius Isaiah Mays; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers. She is also survived by her canine companions “Gizmo” and “Hachi”. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, Family Life Center with Pastor Eddie Honeycutt and Pastor T. Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church of Stanleyville Cemetery Fund.
