Betty Noble Morrison, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Monday, October 7, 2013. Betty was born March 28, 1924, in Asheville, NC. She graduated from Lee Edwards High School, and earned a bachelor's degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1951. During World War II, Betty was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she served as one of the pioneering women in the US Naval Reserve, nicknamed the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). Betty had a distinguished career as an editor with the Winston-Salem Journal from 1955-1989. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties for her cherished friends, relished debating the political events of the day, and never stopped reading her daily edition of The Journal. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mac Morrison, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Nina Morrison Enright. She is survived by her niece, Nina Gibson; great-nephew Dana Trytten and his wife, Becky; and great-great-nephew, Arlo. Betty resided at Arbor Acres Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, and will be missed by her loving family.
