Beverly Wayne ""Doodlem"" Saunders, 79, of Winston-Salem, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 12, 2014. ""Doodlem"" was born January 11, 1935 in Forsyth County to J.O. & Lora P. Saunders. He was married 53 years to Louellen Hayes Saunders. He was a wonderful Christian husband, father, grandfather, and brother. A graduate of RJ Reynolds High School, he went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force and later retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a life long member of Christ Moravian Church where he was a member of Marx-Carr Sunday School class and served as an usher. He was an avid sports fan all of his life, who played baseball, softball, and basketball. Once he was no longer able to play himself, he managed softball fields for the Winston-Salem Parks & Rec. Department. ""Doodlem"" was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kelly Saunders Hemric, two brothers, and three sisters. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Beverly Saunders Grocholski (Larrie) of Clemmons, NC, and Dana Saunders Glenn (Chris) of Harrisburg, NC, one son-in-law, Dr. Mark Hemric of Lynchburg, VA and one brother, Richard P. Saunders of Winston-Salem, NC. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, Brett Hemric (Jessie), Megan G. Caudle (Brandon), Kenan, Danae, & Marlee Hemric, Lora Glenn and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Parkway, on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:30 PM with the Rev. Dr. David A. Marcus, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Moravian Church Capital Improvement Fund.
