Billie Hanes Powell

Mrs. Billie Hanes Powell, 93, of Clemmons died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Trinity Elms Assisted Living. She was born February 8, 1921 in Raleigh, the daughter of the late, Emory Franklin and Annabelle Kiger Hanes. Mrs. Powell was a graduate of Salem Academy and was an active member of Clemmons Moravian Church. She retired after 18 years as Secretary at Clemmons Elementary School. Following her retirement she volunteered at Northern Hospital of Surry County where she had 100 volunteer hours. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Powell, Jr. Survivors include two sons, Ed Powell and wife, Cathy of Low Gap and Bob Powell and wife, Cindy of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren, Robby Powell and wife, Jan of Cary, Hanes Powell of Mint Hill, Kevin Bull and wife, Kim of Jacksonville, FL, Amy Jaguja and husband, Vince of Charleston, SC, Scott Bull of Atlanta, GA and Brent Bull of Greenville, SC; and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 PM at Clemmons Moravian Church with Dr. Q. Ray Burke officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Elms Assisted Living, 3750 Harper Road, Clemmons, NC 27012 or Clemmons Moravian Church, 3560 Spangenberg Ave., Clemmons, NC 27012.
